After Shave: Why It's Not a Luxury, But a Must-Have
Share
Every shave is a minor intervention: the blade not only removes hair but also the top layer of skin. This results in micro-injuries, irritated skin, and an open gateway for bacteria. Those who forgo skincare here risk razor burn, ingrown hairs, and dull skin in the long run.
The right aftershave makes all the difference. Alcohol-based splashes disinfect strongly but severely dry out the skin – only suitable for robust skin types. Balms and fluids are the better choice for most: they soothe immediately, moisturize, and support regeneration. Ingredients like aloe vera, panthenol, or witch hazel also have anti-inflammatory effects.
A tip: the shave itself should always begin in the direction of hair growth, with a sharp blade and good shaving oil or foam. The gentler the shave, the less work the aftershave has to do later. Nevertheless, always remember: never go without post-shave care – even if your skin doesn't complain.
